For my art presentation, I decided to use some of my art which reflected the theme of rebirth and growth in nature. I used watercolor, acrylic paints, value, color, and pattern to incite emotional feelings of hope, comfort, and optimism.
One of the works of art I used for my presentation is a close up of a purple flower. To create this picture, I used acrylic paint and finished it with gloss to make it come alive. I also painted a red mountain with acrylic paint which was a recreation of a painting by Eyvind Earle. With watercolor and black construction paper, I made a sunset behind mountains. With watercolor, I painted a winter wonderland with a colorful mountain in the background and trees in the foreground. I also painted a picture of a purple orchid on a dark green background with watercolors and watercolor pencils. I also created a landscape with water and trees by using oil pastels. And last but not least, I painted a picture of a bean in germination with acrylic paint.
To make the purple flower, I drew out a rough outline, painted it big to small and light to dark, then I painted all the detail, and finished up by applying the gloss. For the red mountain, originally painted by Eyvind Earle, I did all the same things I did with the purple flower except I did not use any gloss. For the picture of the sunrise with the mountains, I painted a rainbow-like sunrise with watercolor on the top of the page and then glued on black construction paper for the mountains. For my winter wonderland, I took the same steps I did with the red mountain. To make my orchid, I drew a rough outline in pencil, outlined in watercolor pencil, and applied water to blend the colors. For the landscape in oil pastels, I drew a rough outline, big to small, light to dark, and for the water, I made horizontal strokes with the oil pastels. And for the bean, I painted the background and then the bean and the details.
The reason I created all of these pieces was to incite feelings of optimism in my audience. The painting of the purple flower introduces these feelings in people by its bright, hopeful colors contrasted by a darker background. The bright orange mountain in front of the dark sky in the background creates feelings of power and enlightenment in its viewers. In the sunrise piece, the bright colors behind the mountain reminds the audience of a new day which makes them feel optimistic about the challenges ahead. In the painting of the snowy landscape, the color in the mountains incites happiness and optimism that winter will end. And the birch tree in the foreground of the painting shows life in the midst of death. The bright colors in the painting of the orchid surrounded by all of the dark, makes the viewer feel happy and think that no matter how dark things get, he/she will always find the light. In the oil pastel, the perspective with the trees shows that life goes on and the reflection in the water lets the audience visualize this concept.
All of these pieces together illustrate the theme of rebirth and growth in nature. It helps to have more than one work so that my audience is able to better understand the theme throughout my pieces. In this art presentation, the viewers can understand the theme clearly due to the amount of paintings and my explanations of them. Hopefully, upon viewing this presentation, my audience will have a more developed appreciation of the cycles of nature.
